Dr David Culliford
Senior Medical Statistician
NIHR CLAHRC Wessex Data Science
David joined the NIHR CLAHRC Wessex in January 2015, to provide methodological expertise in the area of medical statistics. He provides statistical support for many of the CLAHRC research themes, mainly in respiratory medicine and public health. David also organises and delivers statistics training to doctoral and post-doctoral fellows within the Wessex CLAHRC.
Prior to joining the CLAHRC, from 2007 he worked in a large epidemiology research group in the musculoskeletal sciences, based across the universities of Southampton and Oxford. During this time, he also held a position as a statistical advisor with the NIHR Research Design Service South Central.
He has published in journals covering several medical specialties, most prominently in the epidemiology of hip and knee replacement surgery, which was the subject of his PhD thesis.
More recently, his research work has involved collaborations within the CLAHRC which are cross-disciplinary, involving health services research and medical sociology.
He retains an honorary position as a senior statistician at the University of Oxford, where he is part of a team teaching short course in biostatistics for researchers in rheumatology and orthopaedic surgery.
