Lucy is a BACP Accredited Counsellor, ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) Therapist, and Mindfulness Trainer. She has recently been working in private practice and previously worked in the addictions field for 15 years as a psychiatric nurse and counsellor. In 2000 Lucy completed a Masters level qualification in Counselling and alcohol dependency was the focus of her studies. Since October 2014 Lucy has been a full time PhD student studying recovery journeys from alcohol dependency following detoxification in a hospital setting. The Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth screens all admissions for alcohol problems and those with a physical dependency are offered detoxification. The study will explore the recovery journeys of 2 groups who have different continuing care options following detoxification at the QA, one hospital and one community based. This will be a mixed methods study.
