I am a clinical academic student at the University of Southampton doing a PhD in health sciences, focusing on compassionate care for people living with Dementia. My undergraduate studies as a Mental Health Nurse has allowed me to see the physical, social and psychological impacts of living with Dementia and I am passionate about improving their quality of life. I am currently working as Nurse on an elderly medicine ward at Queen Alexander Hospital in Portsmouth and have been involved in the CLECC study run by Jackie Bridges which is looking into an intervention about compassion. This recent study has facilitated my research topic as I am interested in the quality of interaction between staff and patient's with Dementia particularly in an acute care setting. My aim is to provide data that can be used to create a compassionate interaction tool thus increasing the well-being of those patients with dementia and their overall experience of hospital care.
